The right landscape tour can be a great source of inspiration and ideas. Three tours over the next couple of months are particularly noteworthy for their focus on design, plant selection, sustainability, aesthetics and water conservation.

If you’re considering making landscape changes using SAWS’ WaterSaver Coupons and need some additional ideas, these tours are for you. While our coupons are designed to make landscape changes as easy as possible (just four steps), an extra source of inspiration might also make your project easier. Who knows? You just might end up creating your own WaterSaver landscape showpiece worthy of being on a tour!

Watersaver Landscape Tour

Saturday, April 8, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.
Presented by Gardening Volunteers of South Texas (GVST) in Partnership with SAWS Conservation, this free, self-guided tour showcases impressive yards that don’t require lots of water to remain beautiful. Yards have been selected for their uniqueness in design, use of native and drought-tolerant plants, reduced lawn area and appropriate maintenance practices. Six impressive yards north of Loop 1604 between the IH-10 corridor and Kyle Seale Parkway are featured. Since 2002, this tour has highlighted GVST’s mission to promote outdoor water conservation through education outreach. Click here for more information.

Secret Gardens of Historic Monte Vista Tour

Saturday, May 13, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
The Saturday before Mother’s Day, visit beautiful backyards tucked away in historic Monte Vista. Designed by landscape architects, these urban green spaces are sure to lend inspiration for your own South Texas yard. During this self-guided walking tour, docents will be available at each home. Visit the block party anytime during your tour for refreshments and resources about native plants to enhance your yard, as well as our local environment. Click here for more information and tickets. Eco Centro Sustainable Landscape Tour

Saturday, June 10, 9 a.m.-noon (meet at Eco Centro at 8 a.m.)
Interested in reinventing your landscape? Why not do it in a sustainable way that conserves water, mitigates flooding, helps keep our streams clean, is drought-tolerant, and has the potential to produce food! Come join us for an exciting guided tour through some of San Antonio’s most progressive landscapes: The Renewable Republic, San Antonio River Authority Rain Garden and Mahncke Park Food Forest. Free, but limited to 22 people; pre-registration required here.
